NLCIL bags “Swachhta Hi Seva award” for transforming Neyveli Township into plastic-free, green campus

NLCIL, the Navratna CPSE, has bagged the award for making extremely valuable contribution in the implementation of the “Swachhta Hi Seva Programme” from the Government of India. Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD of NLCIL expressed his happiness in receiving the
communication from the Ministry of Coal, hailing the efforts of NLCIL in transforming the entire Neyveli into a plastic-free, clean and green campus, and announcing the “Swachhta Hi Seva 2019” Award. The entire NLCIL family including officials and employees, along with workforce, had voluntarily involved themselves in the implementation of the “Swachhta Hi Seva
Programme” on the theme ‘Plastic Waste Management.’ The Swachhta Hi Seva Award was conferred to the following three units of NLCIL : Township Administration Office – First rank
Thermal Power Station-1 – Second rank
Mines Sub-Stores—Third rank
The Swachhta Hi Seva programme, an initiative of the Swachch Bharat Mission, was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in September 2019. NLCIL Implemented the programme in two phases: first phase from September 11, 2019 to
November 2, 2019; and the second phase from October 3 to October 27, 2019. In this Swachhta Hi Seva programme, all the Thermal units, Mines, Service Units including the Corporate Office, Township Administration, Vigilance Office, General Hospital, Material Management Complex, Learning and Development Centre and CARD participated actively and subjected themselves to assessment for the National award. The message on the adverse impact of one time use plastic articles on environment, and animal and aquatic life was spread among the population in an effective manner. Pictorial displays were put up and street plays were staged in public places on topics related to health, hygiene, environment and ecology. The concept of cleanliness and environment protection was implanted in the minds of students during prayer time or before the commencement of classes and also by conducting essay competitions. Social media such as WhatsApp was being leveraged to spread awareness on the good upkeep of the surroundings.
