IPS Officer Veenu Bansal Transferred Out of Rashtrapati Bhawan Security Detail

Veenu Bansal, who was serving as Joint Commissioner of Police for Rashtrapati Bhawan security, has been transferred to Delhi Police Headquarters, according to an order issued this week. Bansal is an IPS officer of the 2004 batch from the AGMUT cadre.

The Rashtrapati Bhawan security posting is among the more sensitive assignments within Delhi Police, responsible for protecting the President's official residence and the surrounding VVIP zone in central Delhi. Officers holding this charge coordinate closely with the Special Protection Group and other central security agencies on protocols governing one of the country's most tightly secured locations, where security arrangements are reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis in coordination with multiple central agencies.

Bansal's move to Delhi Police Headquarters shifts responsibility from a single-location VVIP security charge to the force's central administrative hub, which houses the Commissioner's office and coordinates policy and operational matters across Delhi Police's various units and districts. The transfer is consistent with the routine rotation Delhi Police follows for officers holding sensitive protection charges, a practice intended to refresh such postings at defined intervals rather than allow indefinite tenures.

Bansal held the Rashtrapati Bhawan security charge immediately prior to this transfer, a posting typically held for a defined period before rotation, in keeping with practice for VVIP protection assignments across Delhi Police that apply similarly to other high-security charges within the force.

The transfer is part of the periodic reshuffling Delhi Police undertakes among its senior officers holding charge of VVIP security and headquarters functions, a practice intended to refresh postings in sensitive assignments at regular intervals and to give senior officers rotational exposure across different charges within the force.

At Delhi Police Headquarters, Bansal will take on administrative or coordination responsibilities as assigned, moving away from the direct protection duty that characterised the Rashtrapati Bhawan posting, into a role with broader force-wide administrative scope.

The transfer takes effect as per the order issued this week.
