NIA Conducts Searches at 16 Locations in Assam, West Bengal and Kerala in IMK Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting searches at 16 locations across Assam, West Bengal and Kerala. Ten locations are in Assam, five in West Bengal and one in Kerala.

The case involves Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK). Reporting describes the group as a splinter or offshoot linked to Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The NIA has investigated JMB-linked cases in India earlier, including the 2014 Burdwan blast in West Bengal. Assam and West Bengal have both seen arrests of suspected JMB members in recent years.

The brief does not give the date the case was registered, the sections invoked or the persons whose premises are being searched.

The searches were under way at the time of the report. No seizures or arrests had been stated.
