Umesh Kumar, an IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and the 1995 batch, has been appointed Additional Director General (ADG) in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) on deputation. The appointment runs until February 29, 2028, the date of his superannuation.
BPR&D is a Ministry of Home Affairs body that works on police research, training and modernisation. Its senior posts are filled by IPS officers on deputation. The Inspector General rank sits below the ADG rank in the bureau, and officers have moved up between the two, as with Anupama Nilekar Chandra of the Bihar cadre, who went from IG to ADG.
The deputation ends on his superannuation date, February 29, 2028.
