Gujarat Names New Surat Municipal Commissioner In Seven-Officer IAS Rejig

Seven IAS officers have been given new responsibilities in Gujarat, with postings spanning a municipal corporation, a state fertiliser company and several departmental additional charges.

Rajkumar Beniwal has been shifted to the post of Municipal Commissioner, Surat Municipal Corporation, placing him in charge of civic administration for one of India's fastest-growing textile and diamond-trade cities, a corporation that manages one of the larger municipal budgets among Gujarat's urban local bodies.

Sanjeev Kumar, who serves as Private Secretary to the Chief Minister, has been given additional charge as Managing Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited in Bharuch, a state-run fertiliser and chemicals manufacturer that supplies agricultural inputs across the state alongside its industrial chemicals business.

Rajesh Manjhu has been posted as Superintendent of Stamps and Inspector General of Registration in Gandhinagar, a post responsible for regulating property registration and stamp duty collection, a significant revenue stream for the state government tied directly to Gujarat's real estate and land transaction activity.

Jenu Devan, Secretary in the Finance Department's Expenditure wing, has been given additional charge as Revenue Inspection Commissioner and Ex-officio Secretary of the Revenue Department, combining fiscal oversight with land-revenue administration under one officer. Remya Mohan Muthadath, Commissioner of Municipalities Administration, has similarly been assigned additional charge as Secretary for Housing and Nirmal Gujarat under the Urban Development and Urban Housing department.

The reshuffle reflects Gujarat's continuing practice of pairing IAS officers with additional-charge responsibilities across allied departments, particularly in urban development, revenue and public sector corporation postings, rather than filling every vacancy with a dedicated officer, a pattern shaped by the relatively tight availability of IAS-rank officers against the state's expanding number of departments and corporations.

Ranchit Raj has been appointed Director, Tribal Development, with additional charge of Director, Scheduled Caste Welfare, and Director of the Tribal Research and Development Institute, while Harshali R Meena takes charge as District Development Officer, Mehsana.
