CISF-Drone Federation Partnership Advances Counter-Drone Capability Push

The Central Industrial Security Force's collaboration with the Drone Federation of India is gathering pace, with both sides working toward establishing a Centre of Excellence for drone detection and counter-drone capability at the CISF Recruit Training Centre in Behror, Rajasthan.

CISF guards a wide range of critical infrastructure sites, including airports, nuclear power plants, major seaports and central public sector undertakings, all of which have become potential targets for unauthorised drone incursions carrying surveillance or, in more serious cases, payload risks. The partnership with the Drone Federation of India, an industry body representing India's drone manufacturing and technology sector, is meant to give CISF access to counter-unmanned-aerial-system technology and expertise it would otherwise have to develop independently.

The planned Centre of Excellence at Behror would train CISF personnel in detecting, tracking and neutralising unauthorised drones, building institutional capacity within the force rather than relying solely on ad hoc technology procurement for specific high-security events.

The collaboration reflects a broader shift in India's critical-infrastructure security posture toward counter-UAS capability, an area that has drawn increased attention following instances of drone incursions near sensitive installations along the border and, more recently, near civilian airports and industrial sites.

Behror's role as a CISF Recruit Training Centre makes it a logical site for the proposed centre, since new recruits could be exposed to counter-drone protocols as part of their foundational training rather than through separate specialised courses conducted later in their careers.

Industry partnerships of this kind allow CISF to draw on private-sector drone technology development without directly procuring and maintaining cutting research capability in-house, a model increasingly used by central forces facing fast-evolving technology threats that outpace standard government procurement cycles.

The Centre of Excellence remains under development as the partnership progresses, with CISF and the Drone Federation of India continuing to work through the operational and training framework for the facility.
