BEML CMD Shantanu Roy Gets Additional Charge Of Director (Finance)
BEML CMD Shantanu Roy has taken additional charge as Director (Finance) following the retirement of Anil Jerath, concentrating two top roles at the defence PSU.
BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy has taken additional charge as Director (Finance), effective September 1, following the retirement of the company's previous Director (Finance), Anil Jerath, on August 31, 2026.
Director (Finance) is one of the functional director posts on BEML's board, responsible for the company's financial planning, capital expenditure decisions and statutory compliance across its defence, mining and rail equipment manufacturing divisions. Combining the post with the Chairman and Managing Director's role means Roy now holds both the company's overall strategic leadership and its financial sign-off authority simultaneously.
Jerath's retirement leaves a vacancy on BEML's board that the company has filled through an additional-charge arrangement rather than an immediate substantive appointment, a common interim measure at central public sector undertakings while the Public Enterprises Selection Board completes the process for identifying a permanent Director (Finance).
BEML, a Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has been diversifying beyond its traditional defence-equipment manufacturing into mining machinery service contracts and rail coach production, a diversification drive that makes continuity in financial oversight during the transition period particularly relevant for the company's ongoing capital commitments.
The arrangement represents a temporary concentration of top-level financial and executive authority in Roy, who will need to balance his existing strategic responsibilities as CMD with the day-to-day financial sign-offs and board reporting duties that fall to the Director (Finance) position.
Central PSUs frequently use CMD-held additional charges for vacant functional director posts as a stop-gap, since the alternative of leaving a financial director's post entirely vacant would slow down expenditure approvals and statutory filings that require a designated Director (Finance) signatory.
Roy will continue holding the additional Director (Finance) charge until PESB completes the selection process for a permanent appointee to the post, as per the order issued for the arrangement.
