Shri. Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation inaugurated the Extension and Strengthening of existing runways of Vijayawada & Rajahmundry Airport and laid the foundation stone for Linear expansion of Terminal Building of Visakhapatnam Airport through a video link today. The ceremony took place at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, New Delhi in the august presence of Shri Jayant Sinha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation; Shri P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha; Shri K Hari Babu, Member of Parliament, Visakhapatnam, Shri Murli Mohan, Member of Parliament, Rajahmundry; Shri Gokaraju Ganga Raju, Member of Parliament, Narsapuram; Shri P. S. Kharola, Secretary, MoCA and Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, AAI. To meet the growing demands of the traffic and to facilitate the operations of A-321 type of aircraft at Rajahmundry Airport, extension and strengthening of existing Runway and associated works at an estimated cost of Rs. 182 crore was taken up. Existing Runway has been extended from 1750 m to 3165 m.
